January 2006

Thats right boys and girls the great Randy Webb of Webb Motorsports is coming to town again. Not as close as the 2 previous times but still on my side of the USA. Virginia Beach, VA this time. A nice 4 hr drive for me to get some work done by the MAN as I call him.

I am looking at having Randy install the Alta CAI hose for my MCSa, a sweet Unichip and do some other things. Other things being maintence things. Also the shop this is being held at has a dyno. So I am going to try for a dyno run of my car again. I plan to do a before and after dyno run. Before install of intake hose and Unichip. Of course if they both add power I won’t know how much each added. But who really cares. I will leave the testing of idividual components up to the MAN.

If interested please sign up on the thread here with the mods you want. Randy will bring the parts and tools. You just have to show up with your MINI and payment.

I took a short trip to the DC Auto Show on its last day. What a crowded place…parents with tons of little kids and people just everywhere.

The things I don’t know about AutoX and performance driving are startling. After trying my best to soak up as much as possible in my first AutoX event I am convinced that I need to go to school. Going to another event just to have fun and try to learn by doing will just not do. There is not enough time in 4 runs to soak up what I need to perform well on the track. I need to go to a AutoX driving school when they start in the spring.

Now some may say that I can pick up alot from folks by going to an event. Well I did! But I feel that I need to learn more about the reasons why certain things are as they are. The rules and how to properly handle my car. I didn’t create any impressive time around the course. In fact I went off-course on 3 of my 4 runs because I didn’t understand the cones.

So all and all I learned alot, had fun, realized how great my car performs and know that I need to buy a helmet.

Side Note: Hit 10,100 miles this weekend :-)

I’m going to my very first AutoX event this Saturday. I am going to try and go with a open mind and a willingness to learn. Trying not to pull up in my decked out MINI looking to act totally macho. I am doing some preparing. I am removing all unnessacary items from my car. Like stuff in the boot, floormats, the rear seats and probaly the seat belts. I know that saves some weight and probaly means nothing on my lap time but I figure why not.
But hey this is me coming from doing most drag racing where I need the car fast, low on drag and weight. So I will see how things go. I am trying to read up on everything I can.

This is the latest in my list of mods to improve the car by improving on the driver. :-)

Event will be @ Ripken stadium in Aberdeen Maryland. If you are reading my blog and going then great! Hope to see you there.

Only 100 more to go before the 10,000 mile milestone. :-)
